Melissa aka Magic Icelandic Crab
A Cancer by nature, Melissa has always identified with the crab: strong on the outside, tender within, guided by instinct, tides, and an unwavering inner compass. The symbol also echoes one of her favorite films, Simply Irresistible, where a magic crab quietly orchestrates chaos in a cozy restaurant kitchen. The story reflects a worldview Melissa has long trusted: that nourishment can be emotional as well as literal, and that transformation often arrives disguised as surprise and whimsy.
In 2014, she followed that instinct north. She quit her job, packed what she could carry, and flew to Iceland. She hitchhiked the Ring Road, moving in a slow orbit around the island, accepting rides from strangers, sleeping where she landed, and letting chance decide the day.
That journey taught her the ancient crab-wisdom of survival and softness: go sideways when the path isn’t straight. Magic Icelandic Crab became not just a name, but a myth she could return to: proof that she had once trusted the unknown and been changed by it, and that she can always do so again. Today, Melissa calls Philadelphia home, where she lives with her husband and son, “PJ.”
