Puffins, the second most adorable creature known to man (Jason Segel is the first) are a huge contrast to the staggering, deathly cliffs of Látrabjarg, Iceland.

Located in the mystical Westfjords, the cliffs are off the beaten path. You’ve got to hitch or drive there. Of course, I chose the latter. Luckily, a lot of tourists go there, so it was easy to catch a ride.

The afternoon I went, it was raining. The winding roads leading to Látrabjarg were slick, which is kind of terrifying since they’re also so narrow. You’d think I was jumping out of my skinny jeans, but luckily, I was really tired and sleeping in the back of an Italian couple’s rental car.

Waking from dreams of thrift store t-shirts and DIY vegan pop tarts, I was greeted by the small, furry faces of these peppy little creatures.

I went nuts. I took a million photos. I took video. I squealed. I said, “Puffins!” in a high-pitched girly voice for the following three hours.

Puffins, indeed.
