Taurus season is the first wink at the summer months, while soaking in the poetry and sensuality of Spring. If you’re looking to plan a romantic trip (babymoons, honeymoons, and couples getaways are great for Taurus season) or merely a dalliance with yourself, this is an opportune time. Seek out deep and introspective film backdrops like Morocco, mainly, a Casablanca (1942) inspired trip (despite Casablanca filming mostly on a soundstage in Burbank).
Take in a film at Cinema Rialto, dine at Relais de Paris or the movie-themed Rick’s Café, and try a local spa treatment. Marrakesh offers sites like Jardin Majorelle and El Badi Palace, with striking architecture, and beaches in the seaside city of Essaouira. Then there’s the beautiful black sand Karekare Beach, the filming location of Holly Hunter’s The Piano (1993). Western Auckland, New Zealand, where the film is set, also offers dramatic scenery, including secluded bays (Paradise Bay and Te Ngaere Bay), the Waitākere Ranges, and a deep local history. Pay tribute to the Māori and visit Ngawha Springs, Waimangu Volcanic Valley, and Te Puia, as well as the living Māori village.
