Because no adventure of mine can possibly compare to the adventures that we’ll have together. For #91, I decided that I wanted to plan my dream vacation, whether it was realistic or not. I was trying to decide between a trip to Europe and a trip up and down the West Coast. I chose Europe because it’s completely unfamiliar territory for Dave and I.

International Trip: Iceland, Ireland, Italy & Greece

DAY 1- DAY 4: Reykjavik, Iceland

I’ve always wanted to go to Iceland ever since I read about it in a book (It wasn’t ‘Pretty Little Liars’, if you ask me if it was, I will deny it). Some of the attractions of the capital, Reykjavik, include cozy little cafes and seafood restaurants, hot springs and national parks, as well as really cold, crisp weather for most of the year. Plus, most of the names sound kind of like pig latin, and I can’t help but laugh when I try to pronounce them. I think this would be the perfect way to start a European vacation….lot of time to scope out the outdoors for me, and plenty of time for my sweetie to hibernate before the next leg of the trip. 5 most appealing attractions for me include:

  • Þingvellir National Park
  • Fossvogsdalur, (cycling and walking path near the beach)
  • The Blue Lagoon, (geothermal spa)
  • The Seafood Cellar, (great seafood place that uses new culinary techniques)
  • Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, (Dave can sleep through this)

DAY 5- DAY 11: Dublin, Ireland

This leg of the trip would be for Dave. I know he would absolutely LOVE to go to Ireland. I don’t think there would be too many things that I’d want to see in Dublin, but it would be a perfect stop after a few sleepy days in Iceland. Why? Because Dave and I would embark on the most epic pub crawl ever. Spanning over a few days, we’d do nothing but be lazy and drink beer. Top 5 bars I’d want to go to:

  • The Brazen Head, (oldest pub in Ireland)
  • Messrs Maguire, (microbrewery in Dublin that is four floors)
  • The Merry Ploughboy, (because the name is hilarious)
  • Angler’s Rest, (more seafood!)
  • Zagloba, (authentic Polish bar)
DAY 12-DAY 25: Italy, Italy and more Italy
I decided that this part of our trip would be the longest, mainly because Dave thinks Italy is full of garbage and doesn’t see the appeal in going there.  Instead of breaking it up into attractions, I’d rather be a hippie for the entire day and ride the train from city to city. This would also be the fattest part of our tour, eating as much pizza, gelato, cheese and pasta as we possibly can.

  • DAY 12-DAY 14: Genoa (Northern Italy, largest medieval quarter, seaport and awesome aquarium)
  • DAY 15- DAY 17: Verona (Northern Italy, location of Romeo and Juliet fictional romance, the Roman Arena)
  • DAY 18-DAY 20: Venice (Northern Italy, infamous city on water, canals)
  • DAY 21-DAY 22: Florence (Northern Italy, large piazza, lots of great gardens and art)
  • DAY 23-DAY 25: Rome (Center of Italy, capital of Italy, center of the Italian universe, obviously)
DAY 26- DAY 30: Athens, Greece
Sightseeing & sunbathing. Period. Dave and I are both fascinated with greek mythology, and I know we’d both love to check out all of the historical sites. After that got old, I imagine that we’d spend the remainder of our trip soaking up some rays. Here are some of the attractions we’d check out before going back to the states.
  •  All of the ruins (Parthenon, Temple of Poseidon, Acropolis, etc)
  • National Archaeological Museum (To get our history fix)
  • Glyfada Beach (has a lot of water activities, close to Athens)
  • The Plaka (local artistans, great shopping and restaurants)
  • Valaoritou Street Cooking Lesson (saw this on a travel site and looked awesome- learn to cook a three course Greek meal!)
So that’s my trip. Yeah, it’s a month long and would put us thousands of dollars in the hole, but it’s the thought that counts, right? A girl can dream!
