For my birthday one year, I was gifted with a trip to NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Since I’m the way of hipster, I was also gifted with an exclusive behind the scenes tour.
When I was in 8th Grade, I wanted to be a marine biologist. Ha, ha, ha. Turns out, you need to be super awesome at chemistry and math, which didn’t really come naturally. So that didn’t work out for me, but I’m still really interested in sea life.
So what did I see at the aquarium? Everything. With my very own eyes. Super hip turtles with creepy long necks, snarky little poisonous snakes, baby starfish no bigger than a pencil point – best part, I got to peek at the opening of one of those HUGE tanks!
You know, the ones you’ve always wanted to swim around in.
Our helpful tour guide answered all of my questions. She said important things like “freshwater”, “pH balance”, “mating habits”, and I don’t know, other stuff that sound like science.
It was the greatest birthday gift ever, and no one will probably be able to top it. But heck, you should still try. I haven’t been to Greece yet.
