Here I am, on top of a volcano overlooking the Krýsuvík Geothermal area. This was my first tour with Iceland Excursions, and we ventured out into Southwestern Iceland in to find the origin of standard backgrounds that come with Apple software updates.
You can just see this pic with white Helvetica font on it, with some motivational quote about overcoming obstacles. Right?
Anyway, if you want to feel like you’re in another world, come here. The climb up is a bit daunting – you need to be in decent physical shape, and it takes about 45 minutes – but so worth it. Don’t forget your Ray Ban glasses for an even better pic – I forgot mine and I look like a total poser.
Ignore the fact that I forgot to suck in (standard for any girl being photographed), and just take a LOOK at that. I mean, I think I might have just been in Never Neverland and not have realized it.
So something I should probably confess, and I’m sure that other travelers have done the same (watch me rationalize, people!) is that when I was hiking up, I went off the trail. It seemed harmless enough.
I’ve been hiking many times in the states, and going off trail (as long as you know where you’re going), isn’t really a big deal.
It’s not a request here, people. Don’t go off the trail. When I stood aside it, I could feel the heat beneath me. The rubber on my cute little Merrell’s was hot to the touch, and even felt a little mushy.
At any time during the hike, the ground could have given out under me. That’s not a dramatic Melissa-ism, it’s a fact. Don’t be like I was. Don’t be ignorant. Just don’t do it.
I promise it won’t change how cool you look at the top.
Word to your mother – this post was on Triptease.com before, until it decided to get it’s groove back on Driftyland.com. As TT no longer accepts or posts content, every review on their site now either 404s or goes back on their home page.
